Did you know that telling a story can save your life and make you fall in love? This is what happened to the beautiful Shéhérazade, the protagonist of "A Thousand and One Nights", the title of a famous anonymous collection of short stories in Arabic, but of distant Indo-Persian origins. To postpone her death, every night she tells Shahryar, the fearsome king of Persia, a story, interrupting it at dawn and then continuing the next day and so on, for almost three years until the king falls in love with her. Sheherazade's stories and the Arabian setting were a source of inspiration for the illustrator Kay Nielsen and for the furnishings of the room.
